The Unusual Zoo | Where Kids Learn Through Laughter

The Unusual Zoo deserves nothing but praise. The author’s passion and creativity have resulted in a project little ones will love. The unusual and unexpected joining of different animals will be sure to extract a giggle from the kids as they read along. The colourful illustrations alongside the text will, I’m sure, add even more enjoyment to their reading experience.

About the Author

David Bailey

The Unusual Zoo was created by author David Bailey as a result of his efforts to remotely entertain his grandchildren during the pandemic!

With its humour, original animal characters and use of rhyme he hopes the book will help children and parents re-invent storytelling and encourage future generations to create characters and write their own adventures. David is running a competition for Primary schools to get involved with him so that children can create their own new creatures to join The Unusual Zoo’s next publication.

the unusual zoo

It is a really funny kind of book! There are lots of short stories in this book all about a very funny zoo. It’s got funny animals inside it. Two creatures go together to make a new creature and its name is two animals names put together. There were lots of animals at the zoo and all of them had their own story. My favourite character and stories were the ones with Princess Roonicorn because she’s a girl and she has a unicorn horn. Her story was very nice because she was new to the zoo so she was a bit nervous. And she has a salon which is funny because she gets the colours wrong. I like the Girrelephant and the Camelonkey because they are nice to the other animals. My other favourite bit was that it all rhymes so it’s really funny to read or when your grown up reads it to you. The illustrations were colourful and exciting so I would recommend it to all zookeepers and to everyone who likes books and stories!.

Come on down to the Unusual Zoo! You might meet a Bee-Rex, a Zebra-Dile, or even a Roonicorn in this place filled with unbridled imagination. Discover a magical place where everyone is unique, and everybody is accepted, in a wonderful world full of limitless joy and cheer. The Unusual Zoo by David Bailey is such fun to read. Each chapter is its own complete story, and features rhyming text and fanciful illustrations of extraordinary creatures. Everything is just so magica, in this wonderful world of whimsey and delight. Discover a brilliant bakery, survive makeover mayhem, and lead the way to the lost llamadillo in this unusual zoo where absolutely anything is possible. It’s clear to see that I absolutely love this book. No matter what kind of outrageously magical creature comes to the zoo, everyone, even the Big Bad Wolf, has a chance to find a forever home where they truly belong. Not only is each story packed full of fantastic adventure, but the overarching message of acceptance pervades every line in this wonderful, wonky world. There are really no complaints to be had…except that I want to see a sequel RIGHT NOW! A great book of stories that’s a perfect choice for reading at bedtime, this cheery chapter book is suitable for ages 6 and up, and all who love fantastic fun. Aside from brief dangers (including a housefire) mentioned in the chapter titled “Gerald Finds a Job”, the book focuses mostly on comical situational dilemmas and avoids overly serious subject matter. A cheerful book of stories that can easily be read again and again, this marvelously endearing collection earns five out of five stars for its pure whimsical delight. You won’t want to miss this one!
